Science Week πŸ§ͺ

The students in 3rd class got hands on this Science Week.  It was  a great opportunity to integrate science into many other subjects. For example, in history we learned the history of science and inventors. We also read about the transition of transport ‘From horses to horsepower’ 🐎 and inventors such as Marie Curie.

Having learned about the history of transport, we then imagined what the future of transport will look like. All students created excellent futuristic cars πŸš— . Well done to all!

In Art we experimented with colours, mixing primary colours to create new colours and shades. πŸ”΅πŸŸ‘πŸ”΄

We also created a lava lamp as part of a science experiment.

What you need: water, jar, vegetable oil, food colouring, steradent (or other fizzy tablet)!

Art- Salmon of Knowledge 🐟

When learning about the famous landmarks of Ireland, we came across many myths and legends attached to them. The students particularly enjoyed the myth of the Giants Causeway and the Salmon of Knowledge. In art, the students created their own Salmon of Knowledge! 🐟 First, the students painted on bubble wrap and printed it onto the card. This created a water effect. The students then designed the fish and used other materials to add more detail to their work.

Ardrahan Mausoleum Trip πŸ“Έ

Friday was such a fantastic day that the students took a little trip down to the Mausoleum in Ardrahan. Firstly, this involved a little walk in the nice weather 🚢‍♀️☀️ When at the mausoleum the students looked at the different architecture and learned about its history.  It is great for the children to learn about their local history as well as history on a wider scale.

Hands on Maths πŸ“

Using hands on resources are a really important part of maths. They help us link maths problems to real life while also broadening our minds to find new ways to solve problems. By using manipulatives such as blocks, matchsticks, cubes, lollipop sticks or drawing on whiteboards, it helps us visualise problems that sometimes are hard to understand!
