Science Week and the Science Fair

Science week was an incredible and busy week for us.

In Senior Infants we tried out some experiments in the classroom. We made a rainbow by placing skittles in water,  we blew up a balloon just using vinegar and baking soda and we separated salt from pepper using a balloon.

On Thursday, the students visited the 3rd and 4th class Science Fair. These students had created stations with many different experiments. The senior infants visited the stations and learned about the different investigations taking place. The students were really intrigued and enjoyed the fair.

Well done to the 3rd and 4th class students for their excellent displays!

Art- Salmon of Knowledge 🐟

When learning about the famous landmarks of Ireland, we came across many myths and legends attached to them. The students particularly enjoyed the myth of the Giants Causeway and the Salmon of Knowledge. In art, the students created their own Salmon of Knowledge! 🐟 First, the students painted on bubble wrap and printed it onto the card. This created a water effect. The students then designed the fish and used other materials to add more detail to their work.

Ardrahan Mausoleum Trip πŸ“Έ

Friday was such a fantastic day that the students took a little trip down to the Mausoleum in Ardrahan. Firstly, this involved a little walk in the nice weather 🚢‍♀️☀️ When at the mausoleum the students looked at the different architecture and learned about its history.  It is great for the children to learn about their local history as well as history on a wider scale.

Hands on Maths πŸ“

Using hands on resources are a really important part of maths. They help us link maths problems to real life while also broadening our minds to find new ways to solve problems. By using manipulatives such as blocks, matchsticks, cubes, lollipop sticks or drawing on whiteboards, it helps us visualise problems that sometimes are hard to understand!
